TikTok is in Fashion (Literally)

Social media platform TikTok hosted their second Fashion Month in partnership with IMG Fashion, La Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM), and the British Fashion Council.

Beginning in February, platform added added live stream events including “Diverse Beauty and Cultural Fashion” with @lennybeadhandzz and Coco Rocha, a “Get Ready With Me” makeover session with Tan France and Hasan Minaj. To promote the event they used hashtags #TikTokFashionMonth, #Upcycling, #OnTheRunway, and #StyleHacks, encouraging users to share their best looks with them.

The event concluded on March 18 with the TikTok Runway Finale. Hosted by Frankie Jonas, the show featured designs from Victor Glemaud, Carrots By Anwar Carrots, and Joe Ando. The platform also gathered an all-star crew of athletes like WNBA players Te’a Cooper, A’ja Wilson, Lexie Brown, and Kahleah Copper. Creators like Kristine Thompson, Xavier Martin and Batsheva Haart were also among those who modeled. Throughout the stream, TikTok users could shop the looks curated by Tabitha Brown.

Idea’s for TikTok Fashion Month came about last year when runway shows went virtual because of the COVID-19 pandemic. From September through October, the platform live-streamed two live stream runway shows per week featuring pieces from Saint Laurent, JW Anderson, and Louis Vuitton among others. TikTok Runway Odyssey hosted by Nick Tangerra. Partnered with PUMA and Alice + Olivia, ended the month by showcasing black TikTok creators and raising money for the Equal Justice Initiative, which garnered over $10k from the event. In addition, Alice + Olivia co-created Capsule with the platform, modeled by top creators like Melanie and Miranda Wilking, Jannete Ok, and Bria Jones. TikTok CEO Stacey Bendet cited diverse creativity and inspiration as the reason behind the show.

“TikTok is an amazing innovative platform for creative expression merging the worlds of fashion, music, art, and design,” she said, “I love the creativity it provides for brands in terms of sharing our clothes and connecting with our customers.”
